The Life in Business: Paradise Found Realty
After attending college and enjoying traveling to Europe, India and Nepal Lorraine Kohn moved to the Big Island in 1977, and found it was a great place to raise her two sons, Chris and Donny. She became a Realtor in 1991, and opened her own brokerage in 2002.
“Having started my real estate career in a down market, I have seen the market go through its changing tides and times,” she says. “Since I’ve lived here over 30 years, I have lots of repeat and referral business from satisfied clients and friends.”
Kohn says now is a great time for buyers, with low prices and low interest rates. “First time homebuyers are realizing their opportunity to purchase now, with low home prices and incredibly low interest rates, allowing them to qualify to buy their own home. But they are having to compete with buyers looking for a second home, or place to retire. Even investors are becoming active with cash buyers on the scene and international buyers from Canada, China and Japan a part of the mix.” Accordingly, she says, right now sellers are particularly challenged in selling their properties because short sales and foreclosures continue to lead prices in a downward trend.
“My approach is low pressure, my style is to be well informed and helpful. My slogan is, Whether you’d like to buy or sell, I’m here to help when you need me.ʻI am good at networking with my fellow realtors to assist my sellers in moving their properties in a difficult market.”
Paradise Found website allows anyone to enter without registering and surf all listings on the MLS (Multiple Listing Service). Buyers can register their search criteria to be immediately notified by the website with emails linking to new listings or price reductions of properties that are a match, allowing buyers to get updates on market offerings in real time.
Kohn has embraced the island lifestyle, and likes to snorkel, swim with dolphins, hike, and is learning to paddleboard and teach yoga. She is involved with Kona Toastmasters and New Thought Center of Hawai‘i in Kealakekua.
